This year’s We Shine Portsmouth, will feature A Hand, Held, an extraordinary interactive projection piece at Hilsea, created in collaboration with young people from Motiv-8, artist Thomas Buckley, and Portsmouth Creates. This project provides an exciting opportunity for Hilsea young people, to learn digital skills, connect with their community, and contribute to a major public art installation.

In a series of digital workshops at The Base, hosted in partnership with Motiv-8 and facilitated by Thomas Buckley, young people are creating digital content that will feature in a large-scale projection spanning the bridge at Hilsea Moat. These sessions are designed to introduce participants to creative technology, digital artistry, and projection work, empowering them with new skills that extend beyond the festival. The young artists will use the digital studio at The Base to develop unique visuals and sounds that will be integrated into the A Hand, Held installation, which will be on display at the We Shine Portsmouth festival.

The installation itself is an interactive experience that encourages visitors to hold hands and “measure their connection.” As they connect, visuals and sounds inspired by the young people’s work will appear, creating an evolving display of light, movement, and sound across the screens surrounding Hilsea Moat.
